NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS FOR THE PROPOSED WIDENING OF U.S. 321 FROM U.S. 70 IN HICKORY TO S.R. 1933

TIP Project U-4700 - Burke, Caldwell and Catawba Counties

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold two public hearings for the proposed widening of U.S. 321 from a four-lane, median divided roadway to a six-lane, median divided roadway.


An informal pre-hearing open house will precede the public hearing and will be held from 4:00 to 6:30 PM. The Public Hearings will begin with a formal presentation on the project at 7:00 PM each evening.


Pre-Hearing Open Houses and Public Hearing locations and times:

  • Monday, July 11, 2016: Open House: 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM Formal Presentation: 7:00 PM Winkler Activity Center, 2500 Clement Blvd. NW, Hickory

  • Tuesday, July 12, 2016: Open House: 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM Formal Presentation: 7:00 PM The Broyhill Center – Room 215, 1913 Hickory Blvd. SE, Lenoir

Citizens will be able to speak, ask questions and/or submit comments following the formal presentation. The presentation and all public comments will be recorded and a written transcript prepared. Written and verbal comments carry the same weight.


The purpose of the project is to improve traffic carrying capacity and traffic flow within the project study area. The project is 17.2 miles in length.
