Rohr reappointed to Serve on National League of Cities’ FAIR Committee

Lenoir City Councilman T.J. Rohr has been reappointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2018 Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Relations (FAIR) federal advocacy committee.

This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC’s federal policy positions on issues involving national economic policy, general financial assistance programs, liability insurance, intergovernmental relations, census, municipal bonds and capital finance, municipal management, antitrust issues, citizen participation and civil rights, labor relations, Native American sovereignty and municipal authority. The appointment was announced by NLC President Mark Stodola, mayor of Little Rock, Arkansas.

As a committee member, Rohr will play a key role in shaping those positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress, with the administration, and at home.

“It's an honor to be selected to serve on the NLC FAIR Committee for 2017-2018,” Rohr said. “I look forward to being a voice for Lenoir in setting federal policy for the association representing America's cities and towns before Congress.”

Rohr has served on the FAIR committee since 2012. While on the committee, he helped craft a once-a-decade overhaul of FAIR’s policy manual, incorporated Constitutional federalism into FAIR’s resolution regarding state and federal laws regarding marijuana, and he has been a consistent voice for the protection of individual privacy in regards to Census data.

Rohr said the FAIR committee will discuss important issues during the next year including municipal bonds, tax reform, the 2020 Census, federal drug laws, and the proposed federal Balanced Budget Amendment.

Rohr join a team of local leaders from around the country working to craft our policy platform and to solve the most pressing challenges facing our communities.”

The leadership of this year’s committee will consist of Chair John Kinnaird, councilmember, Waco, Texas, Vice Chairs Erica Spell, Council Member, Hyattsville, Maryland and Chris Brown, city controller, Houston, Texas.
