Now Hiring - City of Claremont - City Manager
The City of Claremont is currently seeking experienced, energetic, motivational, & visionary candidates for the position of City Manager. Claremont is a progressive City dedicated to preserving small town values while planning for the future and is home to a diverse mix of 1,457 residents and multinational corporations with a daytime population of about 5,000 people. Situated in the beautiful rolling hills of western North Carolina, with ample opportunities for recreation, shopping and dining abounding in the region makes Claremont an ideal place to call home.
The City Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the City with 23 full-time and 22 part-time employee’s covering Police, Fire, Public Works, Parks & Recreation, Finance, and, Water & Sewer Operations. The manager also has contractual oversight of library, planning, & wastewater operations. The FY19 General Fund Budget totals $3.65 million, and the Water/Sewer Fund totals $1.45 million.

The City of Claremont is a growing and progressive community with many key projects planned and underway. Some highlights include:
a large international industrial park with a second phase that includes a 187-acre rail served site
multiple infrastructure projects including a major wastewater project, construction of a new public works facility, downtown/City Hall improvements budgeted and in planning phases
a variety of grants including CMAQ and federal transportation sidewalk grants, Carolina Thread Trail, DEQ Grants –Asset Inventory and Assessment (AIA) for wastewater, a variety of grants/loans associated with the wastewater project (i.e. Golden Leaf, Industrial Development Funds, DEQ State revolving fund loan)
two recently completed industrial spec buildings in partnership between the city, county, EDC and a local developer (one building is sold and occupied and another was recently completed and is for sale)
two new multi-family projects including Oxford Crossing Apartments and Chloe Court Homes
Candidates must have the ability to relate well to the community and have the ability to partner with an engaged council to carry out the strategic priorities of the community. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation with a bachelor’s degree, or Masters’ degree preferred in public administration or a related field, several years’ local government management experience preferred.
The hiring range is $70,000-$90,000 depending on qualifications with a full benefits package.
