Now Seeking Candidates for Town of Long View Police Chief

The Town of Long View (population 4,857) is currently seeking experienced, results-oriented, forward-thinking candidates who desire to provide great community police service for the position of Police Chief. Long View is a Town dedicated to small town values and a great quality of life. The beautiful foothills and view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, several beautiful lakes along the Catawba River, and ample opportunities for recreation, shopping and dining in the town and region make Long View an ideal place to work and call home. The town contains a mix of industrial and residential properties near Interstate 40, US 321 and other major corridors.


The Police Chief is responsible for the day to day operations of the Police Department with 16 full-time positions. The FY20 Police budget is $1.1 million.


The Police Chief must be actively engaged with the community, businesses and other area law enforcement agencies. Candidates must have the ability to relate well to the community and to develop and carry out strategic priorities with the Board and Town Administrator. The position requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration or a related field and at least 7 years of supervisory experience. NC Basic Law Enforcement Certification is required and Advanced Law Enforcement Certification is preferred. Residency within the town is not required. The position reports to the Town Administrator.


The hiring range is $67,000 - $73,000, with a full benefits package.
